Jay Lynch was a counterculture Renaissance man whose career as cartoonist, satirist, and archivist spanned over six decades. Ink & Anguish: A Jay Lynch Anthology includes all his signature Nard n’ Pat stories; selections from comics like Bijou Funnies and Mineshaft; a sampling of his art for Bazooka Joe, Wacky Packages, and Garbage Pail Kids; and collaborations with Art Spiegelman, Robert Crumb, and Ed Piskor.
From his dysfunctional childhood to the day he picked out his head stone, Lynch’s life is also narrated throughout by comics historian Patrick Rosenkranz, adding to this retrospective of an American original and one of comics’ most beloved figures.

He was a key figure in the underground comix movement, producing eight issues of Bijou Funnies with his partner-in-crime Skip Williamson. They were a vital part of what became one of the most revolutionary art movements of the 20th century. Lynch contributed to numerous other underground titles like Dope Comix, Snarf, Pro-Junior, and Teen-age Horizons of Shangrila.
Jay Lynch designed cards and stickers and toys for Topps Chewing Gum, as well as
gags and jokes for Garbage Pail Kids, Wacky Packages, and other confectionary novelties.
Jay Lynch died on March 6, 2017 in Candor, New York and was buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
